Refuge

Dear Yuri,

I came into the women’s refuge just before lockdown. Its more peaceful here and I’m healing, without the usual distractions of other people and a hedonistic social life. There is no ‘normal’ for me to go back to, only forwards into this strange new world. So, I am at peace with the change of pace and I’m hopeful for the future. Every night at my window I take a photo of the sunset behind a silhouette of buildings and I send it to my family, but no one is allowed to know where I am, for the safety of myself and others, so I have to hide any distinguishing buildings. I cannot share so much of myself just now, while we are stuck here in ‘limboland’, so it is truly isolating at times.

So there it is, a dark mysterious cluster of abstract shapes, against the backdrop of a beautiful horizon..

The future…
