Brave New World

Dear Yuri,

Once you, the first and the only one human being, went to Space. You saw the Blue Planet from your window. How do you find it now? It has changed a lot, right?

Now, all over the world we experience living in very weird conditions. Somebody still doesn’t believe that it’s real, this pandemic. It has required us to stay home where only you may feel safe.

From our windows on the 10th floor of the apartment building, in a small town of Moscow region, we see similar multi-floors buildings around. While the kid’s playgrounds are closed, just a few people are seen walking back and forth to the grocery stores and pharmacies. From time to time we see and hear groups of people who hang out, no masks, no 1, 5 m distance, like nothing is going on. Because of these people, who doesn’t take the situation seriously, I assume our lockdown will last longer.

But please don’t think I’m unhappy. I thank God and my destiny every day for my family. The four of us have been staying together in our apartment for six weeks. My step-son studies online, while my husband works remotely. Our youngest son and I – we entertain each other all day long.

Lockdown requires us to spend more time together, doing new things like sewing stuffed animals, making home videos, drawing, reading, art and craft, cooking and baking.

Our only regret is that we can only see our parents on video cam and talk to friends on phone. And we miss our walks a lot.

What it will be a great day when all of us go out and hug and kiss our relatives and friends. It will be a wonderful and happy moment!

Bye, Yuri, your outstanding feat is always in our hearts as a sample of incredible human’s strength and courage. We do our best to show strength and courage in a way too.

Yulia, Moscow, Russia
