Take It Easy

Dear Yuri,

Going back to what we knew as normal scares me a little. You see I’ve become so accustomed to this new, slower way of life. I hear the flat above me blast music at 2am and I’m not even mad at it, because my sleep routine is also nonexistent, so I have a little laugh before going back to my whatever Netflix binge I’m currently on. In fact I think I’m learning to speak bird quite fluently as I hear them wake up as I’m about to sleep. I’ve kind of lost track of the days, but the NHS/carers clap at 8pm on Thursdays reminds me we’re over halfway through the week. These are some of the little things I might miss once this is all over. I hope we are able to give each other a little bit of time once this is all over to readjust, and maybe even keep some of this slower way of life with us a little. I hope it will not be as daunting to call in sick for work when you’re not feeling well, without having to worry you’ll lose your job or face any consequences. I hope we start to appreciate our health more. But most of all, I hope all of our key workers get a pay rise and continue to get the respect they deserve and always have deserved to receive. Seeing people like my mum who is a carer go into work three times a day, every day, even during the peak of the virus, I just hope people and those in charge remember and reward those who put their own lives at risk throughout this pandemic.
