The Corona

Dear Yuri,

The clocks have gone into reverse
All the cars gone; temporary blessing
This virus has set us back centuries
Now it’s more than daybreak
You can hear the birds singing
But as the trees leaves have been opening
The death toll has been rising
Friends have been giving each other a wide berth.

It’s no surprise so many humans have died
When you look at the planet as a life form
It’s supposed to be in balance but no chance
With those humans at the helm.
Then when the effect of them
Has wrecked the equilibrium
Did the planet heal itself with a nasty little virus?
Extinction time so in 100 million years
Something can find our fossils
And say “look what they did to themselves”?
I find myself wondering was this bug a natural thing?
Or did it escape from a lab?
Or be released by a psychopath?
We shall see perhaps
But for now in my lockdown
I watch the world from my window
As the clocks tick backwards
And one corner of society goes back centuries.
